Your place in a group is ascending — warmth more visible, cooperation easier, the sense of being genuinely valued arriving or returning. Use the bright season the right way: not to coast, and not to start measuring ("am I close enough with them yet?" is the ego's sunrise trap — measurement breeds doubt, and doubt breaks the climb). Brighten your own contribution instead; the sun rises by being the sun. Mind the two shadowed lines: hamster-progress (line 4) — using good standing to quietly hoard advantage or keep private score on who owes whom; and the lowered horns (line 6) — force is permissible only against your own faults, never for teaching a friend a lesson through hostility.
Progress in Community
Friendship and community
The sun is rising on your circle — advance warmly, without scorekeeping.
Read this hexagram through friends, social groups, belonging, conflict, and shared life.
Hexagram 35 in friendship and community means genuine advance: the sun rising over the earth — trust growing, closeness deepening, your standing in a circle warming. Progress here is a by-product: it comes not from working at belonging but from brightening what you bring to people. Keep tending that, and the connection climbs by itself.
Your social stock is rising: you're more visible, more at ease, and connections come more readily than they have. Two passages to know in advance. Progress turned back (line 1): interest that stalls, a group not yet extending its trust — through no fault of yours; stay calm and generous, and the welcome not yet given comes to the one who didn't demand it. And progress in sorrow (line 2): advancing while still lonely, the real closeness you want not here yet; don't buy company at the price of your principles. Endured rightly, that lonely stretch ends in line 3's accord — the right people fall in beside you, and belonging stops being a solo climb.
The shadow is the ego at sunrise: taking credit for the good weather, converting warmth into entitlement, resting on a group's goodwill while quietly expecting it to keep accruing. Watch scorekeeping above all — favours and slights tallied nightly (line 5 releases you: take neither to heart; the wide, generous view is where real belonging lives). And never advance by aggression in a bright season; one hostile evening spends what the sunrise took months to gather.
The six lines in friendship
Progressing, yet turned back
The welcome stalls; a group hesitates to trust you. Stay calm and generous — steadiness now earns the confidence not yet given.
Progressing in sorrow
Moving forward but lonely, the closeness you want still absent. Don't trade your principles for company; the gentle welcome arrives in its own time.
All are in accord
The loneliness lifts — mutual liking confirmed, the circle rooting for you. Let the accord carry its share; stop dwelling on old social stumbles.
Progress like a hamster
Quietly hoarding advantage inside a warm circle — favours banked, score kept. Daylight audits this; return to the open path.
Take not gain and loss to heart
Release the friendship ledger entirely. Freed from tallying who owes whom, the whole circle prospers with you.
Lowered horns
Force is legitimate only against your own faults. Correct your side briefly and consciously — never use good standing to punish a friend.
Am I brightening what I bring — or measuring what I get from this circle?
What score am I quietly keeping that daylight would embarrass?
Where has warmth turned into entitlement without my noticing?
