Policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026.
I Ching is designed so that you can explore the hexagrams and use the mobile app without creating an account. This policy explains what remains on your device, what our website and app send to service providers, and the choices available to you.
Mobile app: data stored on your device
The mobile app stores your language and appearance preferences, Full Access and preview status, and any journal entries you choose to save. A journal entry may include your question, cast pattern, changing lines, and notes. We do not upload those journal questions or notes to our servers.
Your journal may be included in the device backups and transfer services provided by Apple or Google. Restore Purchases restores Full Access, not journal entries. If you remove the app or lose your device without a backup, your journal may be permanently lost.
Mobile app: anonymous product analytics
Anonymous product analytics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time in the app under Settings → Share anonymous usage. The choice is saved on your device, and turning sharing off does not restrict the app.
We use PostHog to understand app opens, feature use, consultation completion, journal actions, sharing intent, paywall views, and purchase or restore outcomes. PostHog assigns a random identifier to the app installation and may process basic app, device, operating-system, and network information needed to provide analytics.
The app does not send PostHog your question, changing lines, cast result, journal notes, search text, reading text, selected situation lens, advertising identifier, or RevenueCat customer ID. When you deliberately open a hexagram from the public library, the event may include that hexagram number. Mobile session replay, screenshots, error tracking, surveys, feature flags, and push-notification tracking are disabled.
Purchases and sharing in the mobile app
One-time Full Access purchases and Restore Purchases are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat providing the technical purchase layer. These providers receive the transaction and device information needed to process or validate the purchase. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
If you use the app's Share feature, you choose the destination app and that destination's privacy terms apply. Shared text does not include your private question by default, and journal notes are never included.
Website analytics and session replay
On aiching.app, we use PostHog and Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager to understand visits, reading completion, feature use, app-store interest, and site performance. These services may use cookies or similar browser storage and process page URLs, browser and device details, approximate location derived from network information, interaction events, random identifiers, and the results or hexagrams displayed during a website reading.
The website may use PostHog session replay to show how pages and the consultation flow were used. Form inputs are masked. We do not send the text of your I Ching question or your signup email address to PostHog or Google Analytics. Analytics may record only whether a question was entered and a broad length range.
You can limit website analytics through your browser's cookie, storage, or tracking controls, or by using a content blocker. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from using the website consultation.
Email subscriptions
If you voluntarily enter your email address to receive the ebook, a saved-reading message, or occasional updates, we send the information needed to fulfil that request to Kit, our email service provider. Depending on the feature you choose, this can include your email address, signup source, and reading details shown to you at the time. You can unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any such message. We do not send your email address to our analytics providers.
Service providers, retention, and disclosure
We use PostHog, Google, Cloudflare, Kit, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google Play only where relevant to operate the website, provide analytics, deliver requested email, or process purchases. These providers process data under their own privacy terms and may process it outside your country. We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for these purposes, legal obligations, security, and resolving requests.
We do not sell personal information and do not use the mobile app for advertising that tracks you across other companies' apps. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the service and its users, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
Your choices and contact
You may switch off anonymous mobile analytics in the app, unsubscribe from marketing email, control website storage through your browser, or ask us about access, correction, or deletion of information associated with your email address. Because app analytics uses a random installation identifier and no account, we may not be able to connect an anonymous analytics record to you.
I Ching is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy when the product or its providers change. The current version will remain available at this address. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
