Possession in Great Measure in Money

Money and finances

Real abundance — hold it lightly, steward it, share it.

Direct answer

Hexagram 14 in money means abundance possessed: resources are strong, their light reaching far. The Judgment is unreserved — supreme success — because so much is held, and that is exactly why everything depends on how you hold it. Wealth kept with modesty and put to good use keeps growing; wealth clutched or paraded begins at once to leave.

Building and investing

The season is genuinely abundant — capital, earning power, opportunity all in strength — and sound enough to move. Line 2's great wagon applies: your position is strong-axled and well-built, able to carry weight over distance, so a considered undertaking can be ventured with confidence. Load it. But administer the abundance by modesty, or not for long: keep gratitude ahead of entitlement, and treat wealth of any kind as a commission rather than a trophy. The deepest test is line 3 — can it be given? Money offered upward, to good work and to others, is not spent but transformed; private hoarding shrinks the hoarder. Restrain what is harmful in your dealings, further what is good, and the store keeps replenishing.

Under financial pressure

Even a strong position can feel strained, and this hexagram often appears to remind you the store is larger and less damaged than the pressure suggests. Line 1 is the guide: possession is new and no real harm is done — keep it that way by staying humble and alert to what abundance attracts. Do not compete with the wealthier neighbour (line 4) — comparison poisons a sound position and drives the risky moves that squander it. And practise line 5's balance in dealings with lenders, advisers, and those who want in: accessible yet dignified — open-handed without being presumed upon, generous without being drained. The self-possession earned through long discipline is itself the reserve that carries you.

Watch out for

The money shadow of abundance is forgetting itself: pride that invites others' envy and your own overreach, clinging that tries to freeze the good moment and thereby loses it, the self-made certainty that forgets what luck and timing gave. Watch the company wealth attracts — the flatterers, the consumers, the "opportunities" aimed at the flush — and the softening of discipline that comfort invites. Nothing is harder to survive than financial success. This hexagram's supreme fortune is reserved for those who hold it lightly.

Reflection

What financial good fortune am I taking for granted that I'd grieve to lose?

Where has holding my money turned into clutching it?

What could my abundance do for something beyond myself?
