Breakthrough (Resoluteness) in Business

Business and strategy

The decisive push — declare it openly, but never resort to force.

Direct answer

Hexagram 43 in business means the moment of resolute decision — the last push against a problem that has long weighed on the venture. Name it openly; no backroom deals. But the conditions are strict: begin at home, fixing the fault in your own operation first, and don't resort to a bruising fight. Integrity wins the breakthrough, not combat.

An established venture

The lake has risen to bursting — five strong lines against one clinging weakness. The underperforming division, the toxic partner, the loss-making line finally has to go. Declare it at the king's court: transparently, to your board and team, not through whispers. But heed the Judgment — warn your own city first. Line 5 is the operational core: the entrenched habit or association nearest you regrows from any fragment left indulgently behind, like a weed. Cut it entirely and now, without the little exemptions loyalty pleads for — yet weed with precision, not savagery, staying in the middle. And line 2's discipline is the insurance: stay vigilant exactly when things go well, because the classic relapse happens the evening after victory is declared.

Starting or launching

If launching means finally breaking from a constraint — a bad co-founder agreement, a dependency on one platform, an old positioning that boxed you in — line 1 warns against the premature charge. Strength felt in the toes is not capacity; a first strike that fails entrenches everything it aimed at. Advance only as far as calm judgment can travel. Line 3 offers the harder wisdom: the quiet operator, still entangled with what must be broken from, misunderstood by allies, carries no blame — better resolved and bespattered than loud and rigid. Line 4 warns against forcing the outcome until every move chafes; surrender the frantic driving and let the right structure form.

Watch out for

The weakness you expel tries to move back in wearing your colours. Watch for righteousness hardening into the very intolerance you defeated — the reformed founder who becomes a tyrant about the reform. Watch for the loud jaw that proclaims where quiet firmness should simply act, for anger borrowed as a management tool and never returned, and for the premature victory lap. Line 6 is blunt: a breakthrough that stops just short, one weed spared, one grievance kept, lets the whole growth return. Finish the work in silence.

Reflection

What weakness am I finally ready to remove — and have I named it openly, or am I still whispering?

Where in my own operation is the fault I'm blaming outside?

Am I completing the breakthrough, or celebrating one step early?
