Breakthrough (Resoluteness) in Community

Friendship and community

Name the thing openly — resolve it cleanly, without declaring war.

Direct answer

Hexagram 43 in friendship and community means breakthrough: one last obstruction — a toxic member, an unspoken resentment, a topic the group tiptoes around — is ready to be swept away, and the method is open declaration, not combat. Name the truth plainly, start with your own part, and don't fight it with its own weapons. Resolution is close.

Within your circle

The long-tolerated thing is ready to go — the friend who drains everyone, the dynamic that's soured the group for months, the subject nobody names. The Judgment's protocol is precise. Declare it openly and truthfully: no hints, no whisper campaigns, the matter named in the open. Warn your own city first: identify your own contribution before announcing anyone else's — the fault being expelled must be found in yourself too, or it returns wearing your face. And no resort to arms: don't fight coldness with coldness or gossip with gossip; that drags you into the very method you're removing, and it wins even while losing. After the breakthrough, a second resoluteness (line 6's warning): no relapse, no smug victory lap — the last quiet remnant of the old pattern, indulged, regrows the whole thing.

Finding belonging

The breakthrough is with your own remaining obstruction — the habit or belief standing between you and a real circle. You know its name: the assumption that people don't really want you, the pride that won't make the first move, the grudge kept warm against a whole scene. Resolve it wholly: line 5's weeds regrow from any fragment fondly spared — the story retold once a week that you're better off alone. Expect the bespattered stretch (line 3): choosing to reconnect while still tangled in old bitterness looks compromised from outside; walk it with inner resolve and let the murmuring pass. And check your strength honestly before bold moves (line 1): a reconciliation attempted beyond your capacity entrenches exactly what it aimed to fix.

Watch out for

The shadow is righteousness: the truth declared as a weapon, the group cleansing conducted as prosecution, the breakthrough celebrated into intolerance — becoming, mid-victory, the very hardness you're expelling. Watch the jaw (line 3's cheekbones): determination written all over your face provokes and hardens; quiet firmness penetrates. And beware the no-cry ending (line 6): stopping one honest conversation short of complete, calling the group healed, and leaving the one weed that reseeds it all.

The six lines in friendship

Reflection

What truth is ready to be said to this group — and in what spirit would I say it?

What's my own part in the thing I'm about to name?

Which fragment am I fondly sparing that will regrow the whole weed?
