The Power of the Great in Career

Career and work

Real power and momentum — it works only joined to what's right.

Direct answer

Hexagram 34 in career means great power is running through your situation — strength, confidence, momentum, the gates open. The oracle attaches one condition: strength has to stay wedded to what's right. Power joined to principle moves heavy loads and advances your work; power that starts butting at whatever resists it entangles its horns and hangs there, stuck.

In your current role

You have the force to move things now — to break the stalled initiative loose, take the lead, drive real change. Use it on the established paths (the Image's counsel): momentum through legitimate channels, honest persuasion, and the organisation's own agreed ways — not steamrolling, not unilateral decrees "for everyone's good." Watch the goat in yourself (line 3): head down, ramming the same obstacle, entangling further with each charge. The masterly alternative is line 4: patient, persistent work on the resistance until the hedge gives way on its own — power like a cart's axle, invisible and load-bearing, carrying everything precisely because it displays nothing. And when an old resistance finally dissolves, drop the combat-readiness too (line 5): let the goat go easily rather than keeping the fight alive out of habit.

Considering a change

Your confidence and drive are high, and the season favours bold, honest moves — the direct ask, the clear proposal, the step up. Keep the boldness on the right paths: openly stated ambition, yes; bulldozing, pressure, or conquest energy, never — the first is genuine power; everything after it is the goat. Check the toes (line 1): if the surge wants to advance by sheer force from a low position — the premature grand play, the overwhelming campaign — the line's verdict is unusually emphatic: misfortune, guaranteed. Strength that can wait for the way to open, and take a graceful no, is exactly the strength worth promoting. Great power fails almost only by overreach; nobody else is usually strong enough to defeat it.

Watch out for

Power's shadow is the goat: head down, butting everything that stands, tangling its horns in every hedge. Watch for the supervisory ego that corrects everyone; the flush of capability that discards the modesty which built it; the aggressive advance that mistakes momentum for mandate. If you're wedged (line 6) — pushed so far that neither advancing nor retreating works — the exit is the admission: honestly recognising that force created the deadlock is itself what begins to loosen it. Goats stay stuck; the wise unhook their horns and change their way.

Reflection

Where is my strength genuinely serving the work — and where is it only about winning?

Which obstacle am I ramming that steady patience would simply open?

Can my confidence absorb a no without turning it into a fight? That's the real test.
