Splitting Apart in Money

Money and finances

Something is eroding financially — don't force it; protect the seed.

Direct answer

Hexagram 23 in money means erosion in progress: savings draining, a position collapsing, an income stripping away. The counsel is stark and honest — this is not the time to act boldly. Fighting a decline like this with dramatic moves usually feeds it. Hold still, keep your conduct sound, cut only what degrades you, and guard the seed.

Building and investing

This is not a season for bold building — and pretending otherwise costs you. A holding is falling, a venture eroding beneath you, and the reflex to rescue it with more money or a big counter-move splinters against the tide. The bed's legs are splitting; pressing your weight on it helps nothing. What you can do: stop feeding the collapse, refuse to throw good money after bad, and distinguish what is actually dying from what merely looks frightening. The mountain rests on the broad earth — so widen your base, live below your means, keep reserves generous. Line 3 names the one clean action available: severing from what genuinely degrades your finances — the toxic investment, the draining arrangement. That cut carries no blame.

Under financial pressure

Under real strain the counsel is hardest and most needed: undertake nothing rash. When support has fallen away and no help is in sight (line 2), stubbornly forcing a fix carries you into deeper danger — the panic loan, the desperate gamble to win it all back. Stay neutral, exercise self-control, and wait for the turn rather than manufacturing one. If the collapse reaches you personally (line 4) — the account emptied, no evasion left — the line offers no technique, only conduct: don't resist, don't dwell, don't add self-destruction to the loss. Accept it fully, steady yourself, let the worst pass through. What is met with composure ends sooner and takes less. If the pressure is genuinely overwhelming, seek proper financial advice; you needn't face a stripping season alone.

Watch out for

The money shadow is the reaction, not the season. Panic-action — chasing losses, dumping at the bottom, borrowing to prop up what is falling — hastens the very collapse it fears. Bitterness — nursing grievance against markets, advisers, or the people who pulled out — feeds the darkness of the time and clouds every decision. And despair — concluding that because this is lost, all is lost — forgets the large fruit that survives every winter uneaten. The season strips; your reaction decides what it strips you of.

Reflection

What is actually dying here — the whole position, or one part I can let go?

What seed must survive this winter intact, whatever else goes?

Where am I fighting a financial season as if it were an enemy I can beat?
