Increase in Career

Career and work

A season of increase — build boldly and pass the gains downward.

Direct answer

Hexagram 42 in career means increase: a season of blessing where your work grows with a tailwind — momentum compounding, effort returning multiplied, help arriving from above. Use it: undertake, build, cross the great water. The season's single rule is circulation — increase that's shared keeps flowing; increase that's hoarded stalls, and the current turns back.

In your current role

Your work is in flood-tide: doors open, resources arrive, effort pays off unusually well. Spend the season deliberately. Undertake the big things now — the ambitious project, the bold proposal, the change too hard in leaner times; blessings like this exist to be built with, and there's even room for error (line 1: mistakes made in sincere effort self-correct in a time of increase). Practise the Image's two disciplines: see good in others and imitate it; find faults in yourself and root them out — the fastest growth algorithm there is. And keep the flow moving: pass the increase downward — mentor, share credit, lift your team — because line 6 is the season's one real danger: whoever takes the increase and passes none of it on ends isolated, and struck from an unexpected quarter.

Considering a change

Your capacity is increasing — confidence, credibility, opportunity — and the counsel is to use the season: it favours undertaking something. Go toward what pulls you; start boldly and sincerely, because ventures launched on this tide carry. Enrichment may even come through the season's setbacks (line 3): the rejection that redirects, the brief wrong turn — in a time of increase, even these instruct and strengthen the one who stays sincere and centred. Keep the heart steady amid the abundance (the season stirs appetite as well as growth), and give as you receive: the most magnetic thing about a person on the rise is what flows through them to others rather than what they hoard.

Watch out for

The shadow is the tide misused. Carelessness: assuming the good season is permanent and letting discipline dissolve into it. Appetite: growth converted to greed — for status, for more, for the ego's expansion. And withholding: the increase received and kept, passed to no one below, which reverses the whole current (line 6's stark warning). Watch, too, the ego's credit-taking: this favourable weather wasn't purely your achievement, and gratitude keeps the sails full where entitlement luffs them. Hold humility as though the hard season had never ended.

Reflection

What large move belongs in this favourable stretch, before it passes?

What good practice of a colleague's could I simply adopt this month?

Is the increase passing through me — or collecting in one place?
