Direct answer

Hexagram 32 in love means duration: the marriage hexagram, where courtship's spark becomes the enduring union. Its secret is that lasting is not standing still — thunder and wind endure by moving together, constant only in direction. Love lasts for couples who renew it daily, hold the aim fixed, and let everything else flex.

If you're in a relationship

This hexagram blesses the long haul — and defines it correctly. What endures is not the frozen form (the roles of year one preserved under glass) but the renewed direction: recommitting to each other through ten thousand adjustments. Stand firm in what the relationship is for; stay flexible in everything about how. Watch the two impostors of constancy: rigidity — clinging to old patterns and grievances and calling the stiffness loyalty; and restlessness — the perpetual renovation that never lets anything settle (line 6: agitation as an enduring condition is this hexagram's one true misfortune). And don't demand the deep-settled feeling on a deadline (line 1): duration is built by accumulation, never by insistence.

If you're single

You're being asked what you can be constant to. Give duration to your own character first (line 3): a self that fluctuates with every mood and opinion attracts and offers only fluctuation, while a settled direction — your values, your way of living — is the most attractive constancy there is. Check your hunting ground too (line 4): persistent effort in an empty field — the app that never yields, the type that never works, the person who will never turn around — is not perseverance, it's mislocated loyalty. Redirect the constancy; keep the faithfulness, change the field.

Watch out for

The shadow is constancy misassigned: enduring the wrong things (chronic disrespect renamed "commitment"), preserving the form after the substance has left, or one partner holding the whole direction while the other merely rides. Watch also for the comparison glance (line 3's disgrace): measuring your relationship's endurance against others' highlight reels destabilises exactly what it measures. Look straight ahead; duration is built facing forward.

Reflection

What is our fixed direction — and could we both state it in one sentence?

Where am I preserving a form whose substance needs renewing?

What am I being constant to that deserves my constancy less than it gets?
