Something is consolidating — a team, a coalition, a shared push. Two counsels. First, name the temple: the shared purpose above every member that everyone orients by. Groups gathered only around a leader's personality or their own camaraderie wobble under load; those gathered around a genuine mission hold. Second, the unfashionable image — renew the weapons: where much collects, the unforeseen collects too, so anticipate the frictions that scale brings (politics, logistics, rivalries at the edges) rather than being ambushed by them. Bring great offerings: this is no season for stinginess of effort, trust, or commitment. And know the leader's law here — only the self-gathered can gather others; compose your own doubt first, because doubt at the centre becomes confusion at the rim.
Gathering Together in Career
Career and work
Assemble people around a real centre — and lead from a settled one.
Interpret this hexagram through work, direction, leadership, and professional choices.
Hexagram 45 in career means gathering: people, effort, and resources are drawing together around a centre — a team forming, a movement building, a project pulling talent in. The oracle's question is what you gather around. What assembles around something true holds its mass; what assembles around a hollow disperses or turns volatile.
Opportunities gather where people do — the network, the community, the assembled team — so this hexagram favours joining and convening over hunting alone. If you're sighing at the edge of a formed group (line 3) — the team you want to be on, the circle you're outside — enter by the modest route: ally with whoever near the centre will receive you, and accept the small humility of joining from a lower position. That slight embarrassment is the whole price, and it buys the way in that pride was blocking. When you're wavering between options (line 1), stop oscillating: call out clearly toward the one that's genuinely right, and a single decisive reach ends the confusion the hesitation created.
The shadow is gathering wrong. At the centre: leaders assembling people around their vanity, their doubt, or their appetite — the lake collecting around a sinkhole. At the edge: joiners drawn by a group's warmth or momentum rather than its purpose, factions forming inside the fellowship, numbers swelling while the core hollows out. Watch, too, for forcing sincerity (line 5): some of what's gathered around your position isn't fully committed yet, and pressure only confirms their suspicion — consistent character is the one instrument that converts it.
The six lines in career
Sincerity not carried through
Wavering between the true centre and other pulls is what breeds the chaos. Reach openly for the real one — a single honest reach restores what hesitation scattered.
Letting oneself be drawn
Give in to the genuine pull; don't manufacture connections. A mutual draw needs no engineering — bring your modest contribution sincerely.
Gathering amid sighs
Left outside the circle, sighing at its rim. Don't force your way in — enter humbly through whoever will have you; the modest route works.
Gathering for the whole
You're assembling people around the shared purpose, not yourself. Unqualified good fortune for the unselfish gatherer.
Position without full trust
Some gather around your title, not your principle, and their sincerity is pending. Don't campaign for it; steady character converts or exposes them.
Lamenting at the edge
Misunderstood and left out, the frustration breaks open. The distress is honest — let it be the reach back toward the centre it really is.
What does this team actually gather around — could we name the centre?
What foreseeable friction should I arm for now, while it's still theoretical?
Am I joining groups for their purpose — or their warmth?
