The lake gathers above the earth: capital pooling around a centre. Make sure that centre is worth it — bound to something sound above the members, not to hype or a personality. Bring the great offerings the Judgment asks: half-commitment starves a fund; the pooled venture, the joint savings goal, the collective investment needs your full stake, not a hedged toe. Only the self-gathered can gather others (the spirit of Ts'ui): purify your own doubt before you pool with anyone, because doubt at the centre becomes confusion at the rim. And renew the weapons — keep reserves and insurance current, because mass attracts mischance, and the unarmed pool is the vulnerable one.
Gathering Together in Money
Money and finances
Pool around a real centre — commit fully, keep reserves.
Use this interpretation for finances, resources, spending, security, and material stewardship.
Hexagram 45 in money means gathering together: resources collecting into one pool — savings, investors, a shared fund, a household budget. The Judgment names the requirements: a true centre worth gathering around, real leadership, and full commitment, for stinginess starves what gathering feeds. And where much collects, the unforeseen collects too.
If you're outside the pool — line 3's position, sighing at the edge while others have the fund, the deal, the group buy — don't force the entrance. Ally instead with whoever near the centre will receive you, and accept the humility of joining from a lower position; that modest approach buys the way in that pride was blocking. Line 1 offers the simplest remedy for wavering at the threshold: call out. Ask openly for the hand of the centre — the adviser, the group, the person who can bring you in — and one honest grasp restores what hesitation scattered. Line 2 adds the manner: let yourself be drawn toward the right people and the right fund rather than contriving it — and even a small, sincere offering furthers.
Gatherings fail at the centre or the edge. At the centre: a fund built around vanity, doubt, or appetite — the scheme that collects money around a sinkhole, the leader you can't quite trust. At the edge: joining for the crowd's warmth rather than the fund's purpose, faction forming inside the venture, insincere numbers swelling the total while hollowing the core. And over all of it, the unforeseen: pooled money attracts the mischance a single purse wouldn't. Keep the reserves renewed and the centre honest.
The six lines in money
Sincerity not carried through
Wavering at the edge of a fund or venture, distracted by other pulls. Just call out — ask openly to join, and one honest grasp restores what hesitation scattered.
Letting oneself be drawn
Yield to the genuine pull toward the right pool and the right people rather than contriving it. What must be forced was never a true gathering — and a small sincere stake furthers.
Gathering amid sighs
Outside the circle while others have the deal. Don't force in; ally with someone near the centre and accept joining from a humble position. The slight indignity is the whole price.
Gathering for the whole
Pooling resources for the common good, not private advantage — the treasurer who serves everyone. Precisely this selflessness earns the unconditional verdict: great good fortune.
Position without full trust
You hold the fund, but some gathered around the position, not the principle — their commitment is pending. Don't campaign for it; steady, honest conduct is the only instrument.
Lamenting at the edge
Goodwill mistaken, your stake refused, the grief of exclusion. The distress itself proves the wish to belong was real — reach toward the centre again, and open your own circle to others.
Is the centre I'm pooling my money around genuinely sound — or a sinkhole with warmth?
Am I committing the great offering this venture needs, or hedging a toe?
Where have I let reserves lapse, forgetting that a big pool attracts big surprises?
